Office administrators play an important role in a variety of businesses. Vancouver Career College's Office Administration program gives students the skills and training they need to excel in an office management role.

The program equips students with the core customer service, organizational, and clerical skills they need to excel in this demanding and fast-paced career. Students also learn computer and office administration skills, business communications, keyboarding, and accounting software.

Students then gain on-the-job experience as part of a five-week practicum in a real-work workplace. 

If you love working with children, our Early Childhood Education program will provide you with an excellent introduction to a rewarding career.

You will study interpersonal communications, childhood development, behavior management and program planning. In addition, you'll learn teaching strategies that use drama, math, science, play and arts and crafts. You will also receive First Aid and CPR certifications as well. As part of this program, you will observe experienced Early Childhood Educators in the field and then apply your newly developed skills during eight weeks of practicum.

After completion of the coursework, you must gain an additional 500 hours of field experience required for licensing. Upon completion of the first ECE module, you can apply for an assessment letter to become an Assistant through the Early Childhood Education Registry. As you train, you can also work or volunteer part-time to complete the required hours.

Upon graduation from the Early Childhood Education program, you will find employment opportunities exist in day care centers, preschools, nursery schools, integrated day cares and family service centres.

Take your ECE career to the next level. Vancouver Career College offers three separate streams of the Early Childhood Education Post Basic program. Students can take the Infant Toddler or the Special Needs Specialization - or decide to take both.

This part-time program expands students' understanding of Early Childhood Education in the areaa of infant/toddler or special needs training education. Students build on their knowledge of working with infants and toddlers, family and community interaction, childhood development, and administration duties for childcare centres.

Graduates of this program will receive a Special Needs Educator license and/or an Infant/Toddler Educator license. Each program specialization is made up of seven courses and one practicum. In order to qualify for both licenses, students are required to complete nine courses and two practicum placements.

The full Early Childhood Education Post Basic program is 35 weeks, and runs four nights a week. Enrolling in just one specialization will take 41 weeks, two nights a week. 

Based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, Montessori Teaching provides an enriching environment for young learners to grow and thrive. Vancouver Career College's Montessori Teaching Certificate program trains students in the fundamental elements of Montessori learning. This program expands upon students' prior knowledge Early Childhood Education. Prospective students should already have an ECE certificate or diploma before enrolling in this program.

Students train in the major areas of Montessori learning: sensorial, cultural, language, math, and practical life. The program builds on the students' ability to develop leaning activities that support childhood development and teach observation skills. As part of this program, students put their training into practice in a three-week practicum placement at a Montessori childcare centre. 

Medical Pharmacy Assistants help pharmacists with dispensing medications and providing patients with up-to-date information about their prescriptions and medical conditions. Vancouver Career College's Medical Pharmacy Assistant provides students with the industry-leading training they need to excel in medical and pharmacy jobs.

During this program, students learn how to administer basic medical office tests, answer preliminary patient questions, and learn key medical terminology. Students also study billing and inventory, bookkeeping, communication techniques and prioritizing appointment requests. Courses also include prescription transcription, pharmacy billing, pharmacy math, and hospital or community pharmacy protocols.

All students complete two mandatory five-week practicum placements (10 weeks total) working in the medical/pharmacy field. Graduates of this program receive a Medical Pharmacy Assistant Diploma, Medical Office Assistant Diploma, a Standard First Aid Certificate and a CPR "C" Certificate.

During your Pharmacy Assistant training, you will study pharmacology, terminology, pharmacy regulations and drug laws. As a Pharmacy Assistant / Technician graduate, you will be prepared to step into positions in retail, internet and community pharmacies. Working with people suffering from drug or alcohol addiction is a challenging and rewarding career path. Vancouver Career College's Addictions and Community Services Worker program prepares students to enter the growing field of community care.

The program teaches the fundamentals of addiction, human psychology, relapse prevention and the physical effects of substance abuse. Students also gain practical skills such as working with families and group facilitation techniques.

The 44-week program also teaches community support techniques such as dealing with special needs patients and domestic violence.

In the Resident Care Attendant program, you will study anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. You will learn about chronic medical conditions, interpersonal relations and communications, as well as human growth and development. You will also gain a solid foundation in specific areas such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, death and dying, and patient support networks.  You will receive certification in First Aid, CPR, BC FoodSafe, and WHMIS training. In addition, you will complete three-weeks of clinical training in intermediate care and four-weeks of clinical training in an extended care facility to gain hands-on experience in the field.

As a graduate of the Resident Care Attendant program, you will be prepared to care for clients with special needs and to function collaboratively as members of a multidisciplinary health care team. You will be qualified for a range of positions, including Long-Term Care Aide (geriatric), Home Healthcare Worker, Residential Care Attendant or Nursing Aid.
