The Accounting and Finance Certificate Program walks students through financial management and record keeping, financial report and document creation, business regulations, payroll calculations, and more. The Community Support Worker Diploma Program provides students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to work in a personal support role with youth and adults in a variety of community settings. Graduates are qualified to work in areas such as community social service agencies, support services to all ages, and group home settings. Through various teaching strategies – including lectures, group discussion, student practice, videos, and guest speakers – students in this program progress through sixteen courses and three practicums.

Dental Assistants are essential members of the dental health care team, all working toward the common goal of providing quality oral care for dental clients. Before applying for this program, students should learn as much as possible about this career. Successful dental assistants are genuinely interested in helping people maintain dental health. You should be self-motivated, responsible, sensitive, and responsive to your own and others’ needs.

Our Dental Assistant II Program prepares graduates to meet or exceed the requirements for a Dental Assistant Level II in British Columbia. These requirements are regulated by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC. Upon graduation you will be required to pass the NDAEB (National Dental Assisting Examining Board) written exam and their Clinical Practice Exam (CPE). Upon successful completion of this program, you will possess the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable you to work as entry-to-practice dental assistants. This program combines classroom lectures and clinical practice in our fully equipped dental clinic.

Students must complete both the Accounting and Finance (AF) and Medical Dental Applications (MDA) programs in order to earn their Medical Dental Accounting Administration Diploma at Discovery Community College. This hands-on practical program ensures learning for immediate use, with nearly all graduates making seamless transitions into highly paid positions in the field.

The Medical Dental Office Administrator Advanced Diploma Program at Discovery Community College prepares students for advanced administrative or clerical positions in a health care environment. In order to earn the Medical Dental Office Management Advanced Diploma, students must complete all three Computerized Business Applications (CBA), Accounting and Finance (AF), and Medical Dental Applications (MDA) programs.

At Discovery Community College, we believe in learning by doing. The work of a medical office manager is often varied, ranging from office correspondence and billing procedures to staff scheduling and patient interviews. Because of this, our programs train our students in a wide variety of office management skills, in both independent and team environments. The Discovery Community College approach offers many opportunities to expand thinking, problem-solve, and engage in class discussions and debate.

To earn the Office Administration Certificate at Discovery Community College students must complete both the Computerized Business Applications (CBA) and Accounting and Finance (AF) programs. Office Administration graduates are equipped with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to work in a modern office environment. Your hands-on training will cover computer hardware skills and knowledge, computer software skills focusing on the MS Office suite, organizational and communication skills, basic bookkeeping and computerized accounting knowledge, and employability skills.
 

Discovery Community College's Health Care Assistant program is offered on site at residential care facilities. The philosophy of this program is based on a humanistic, experiential approach, featuring gradual immersion and hands-on training. Our program features small class sizes. We believe adults learn by doing - and we integrate this philosophy with classroom and clinical experience. Our graduates are competent and confident with their knowledge base and clinical skills.
