Every day we are surrounded by math and physics.  Mathematics has been termed the queen of the sciences since it is the principal language in which natural scientists communicate. Physics is the most fundamental of all the natural sciences since it deals with the laws that govern all processes in the natural world and the particles from which all matter in the natural world is made.

Augustana's Sociology program educates students in sociological thought within a liberal arts tradition. The courses are designed to familiarize students with the substantive, theoretical, and methodological issues confronting sociologists.  Students learn how society shapes individuals, how to question the claims they and others make, and how to enhance their understanding of self.

The Chemistry program at Augustana provides students with an exciting hands-on approach to learning about the fascinating area of Chemistry. We pride ourselves in offering a program that focuses on strength in teaching and positive interaction between faculty and students.

In an age when medicine and technology are rapidly advancing and humanity is becoming increasingly aware of the impact it has on the environment, a good grounding in biology becomes indispensable. A biology degree from Augustana ensures a broad education which prepares graduates for the current fluctuating job market in which specialization increasingly narrows options and on-the-job learning becomes more important. With the rapid rate at which our knowledge and understanding of our world changes, the ability to be flexible in learning new tasks and theories becomes crucial in securing a job.
